Isaac is doing a lot better. As of yesterday, he has come off the oscillator ventilator and is now back on the conventional ventilator. Our lil warrior man is fighting his infection and even trying to fight the ventilator as he is always trying to do everything on his own. He is a very active baby which is a good sign that he is feeling much better. There is talk about trying him again on CPAP soon, before this can happen he needs to be fully weened off his morphine, which should happen over the course of the next few days and given that his lungs maintain their stability he will have another go at the CPAP. They do not want to push him too quick as he has had a very rough time and been through so much over his first few weeks, but the sooner he can get off his ventilator the better, so hopefully Isaac maintains his strength and heals well from his infection. He has yet another 7 days of medication for his infection. At the moment he is tolerating 5ml feeds of Mummy's breast milk every 2 hours.
Isaac looks bigger and hopefully soon, when he is fully stable and off onto CPAP we might get a new update on his weight and growth. For the moment whilst he has been sick with infection and had problems with his lungs it has been too hard to get him weighed as it interferes and makes him very restless - what with all the tubes and everything also hanging off of him.
To his Mummy he seems a lot more alert and very active. So much so, Mummy is convinced that Isaac will take after his Daddy already, the type where he can't sit still for more than two minutes at a time and always has to be doing something with his hands. Last Saturday Isaac got so active that he even managed to extubate himself (take out his breathing tube). Let's just say Mummy and Daddy were very glad they did not see this escapade of his!!! Many nurses have also said they are surprised how active he is and how strong he is.
Mummy is still changing Isaac's dirty bottom and giving Isaac a wipe down during cares as much as she can and especially loves touching her lil man, especially when he needs comforting. Daddy is also very involved giving Isaac his feeds through his gastric tube whenever he can and taking his temperature and where ever possible we both get involved as much as as we can whilst we are hospital. We are both however looking very forward to the day where we can cuddle our lil man.
Isaac is our lil warrior man and we pray each and every day for continued strength and healing for him.
