40 Week Update (Full Term) 26 August 2010

Isaac's due date was meant to be today the 26th August. He is now classified as full term and his corrected age will be calculated from this day forward.

Isaac's weight as of today is 3300 grams = 7 pounds 4 ounces

During the past couple of weeks Isaac has started to enjoy more awake periods and will look around and have more interactions with you. Quite often he will coo and make big smiles. It's all very exciting when he is awake. His awake periods can last now for a couple of hours and they keep us very amused.

Isaac passed his hearing test and had his last eye examination this morning. He won't have to have his eyes tested again now until he reaches 12months corrected age (which will be when he is 15months old :-)

Isaac was moved from NICU back to NSC (Special Care Nursery) as of last week and so far he is settling back in. He hasn't quite managed to pick up the breastfeeding as much since before he got sick but is enjoying having a bottle overnight and we are slowly introducing the breastfeeding during the day. Quite often however he falls asleep and requires to be fed via his NGT most of the time.

Many of you ask "So when is he coming Home?" - well it's not too easy for us to answer this question as yet, you don't know how much we wish we could say when it will happen. Isaac still needs Oxygen support and although it is envisaged he will go home on oxygen, his oxygen levels need to come down somewhat before he can go onto the portable oxygen. Isaac also needs to be feeding solely on his own and at this stage 90% of his feeds are via his NGT. Until he is feeding either from the breast or bottle completely he will not be able to leave the hospital. Each day we are trying very hard to accomplish feeds without the NGT but in all honesty Isaac is still getting over his recent illness and when he is ready to pick up in the feeding stakes he will - only time will tell. he gets very tired and feeding for him he exerts a lot of his energy stores.

Our lil warrior man has done so well to get to where he is and we are so very proud of him. Each day is one step closer. He is a fighter and has lots of strength. Although its frustrating having him in hospital when all we want to do is to bring him home, we know he is in the best place possible getting all the treatment he deserves. This day will come....and when it happens we will all be so happy :-)

Hearing Test..so cute!

  5. So true Deb and Isaac is doing great but I think until you see how hard our babies fight to breathe in those 1st few months you just dont understand how much it takes out of them! And breathing, sucking and swallowing is a hard deal I think of it like having a blocked nose when they have to have oxygen, it just makes it that little bit harder!! But I know next year when we celebrate his 1st birthday we will be like gee that time has flown even though it doesn't feel like it now!! Love you guys and can't wait to c u real soon! I'll call for a chat in the next week luv u guys xoxo
