11 & 12 Week Update..

On Thursday 5th August Isaac became quite ill. In the morning mummy noticed Isaac was out of sorts, not his regular little self. Over the course of the next hour or so, Isaac became quite ill he started having severe Bradys and Apneas and at one stage he even stopped breathing. They transferred our lil guy from special care back to NICU and after a few more episodes of severe Apneas it was decided that he should be re-intubated (back on the ventilator). As the events unfolded it became apparent that our lil guy had a very serious Infection (sepsis). He was administered a cocktail of antibiotics and bloods were drawn to decipher what the infection was and excatly what he was suffering from. This would be a long wait ahead to get the final result as blood cultures take 48 hours to grow. On Friday 6th August the lil guy also had a lumber puncture taken and the results of this were inconclusive due to him already being treated with antibiotics but it was suspected at this stage he had Meningitus and treatement would remain the same either way.

By the weekend results proved he had a serious sepsis and lung function had been comprimised as a result of the sepsis. Isaac would remain on the ventilator for a further few days yet. His feeds were completely stopped and he endured many IV canulas (one in his scalp) and even a long line was eventually inserted in his scalp. On top of the bacterial infection, it was also suspected he had a viral infection. This was proven in further tests. Our poor lil warrior had been hit with a double whammy..bacterial sepsis and a viral infection.

Our lil Warrior was out to beat the infections. He proved himself yet again - he fought like he always fought - hard and strong and sitting here now I can say he is the most amazing lil guy i know. Isaac came off the ventilator on Wednesday 11 August and was back on CPAP. He remained on CPAP for a few days and by Saturday 14th August he got himself back on to Low Flow Oxygen. Today (17th August) he remains on low flow oxygen and is back to full feeds. Isaac even managed to have his first full bottle last night and drank the entire 60mls. Isaac still needs to finish his 2 week course of antibiotics but at this stage he is on the road to recovery. Due to the suspected menigitus a brain scan was performed and the results of this were very good. Eye examinations were also clear.
