7 Week Update

Isaac was 7 weeks on the 7th day of the 7th month...

Isaac has had a better week this week. His oxygen requirements have improved somewhat from last week. We are hoping that he might come down on his CPAP settings over the next few days, but there is no hurry, when he is ready to do this he will, but in the shorterm it's important that he is rested and sleeps well. The more rest and sleep he gets the more growing he does. Our lil warrior man has put on weight over the last week, he now weighs 1922 grams, not long until he gets his 2 kilo badge now. He is now being fed 38mls of breastmilk every 3 hours. The change from 2 hourly feeds to 3 hourly feeds was a big step for our lil man. It's quite funny watching him approach the 3 hour mark, he tends to get quite antsy in the last half hour and requires lots of soothing.





Isaac loves his dummy!! (For my american friends this is the term we use for pacifier or comforter). He goes absolutley frantic with the dummy, you can hear him sucking it from outside his isolette. It is the cutest noise and he has even learnt to hold his dummy although he can't quite keep a strong hold on it, as he sucks it so darn strongly!! Isaac has also learnt to keep his nurses very busy. He has mastered a very tricky technique of getting his CPAP prongs out of his nose. So much so, he actually lifts his head and turns it whilst also brushing the pillow in order to remove his prongs. We should have named him Houdini, he can escape the dreaded prongs in many masterful ways. Just the other morning I turned up at his bedside and unbenownst to the nurses and doctors isaac had somehow manoeuvred himself onto his back and removed his gastric feeding tube...Houdini had somehow done this all by himself and might I say he looked pretty happy with himself and comfy as anything!






Mummy had a special week this week as Isaac is learning all about his Mummy's portable milk bar on her chest. He has had quite a few cuddles where he is slowly learning about taking to the nipple and so far so good! Isaac will over the course of the next few weeks learn to hopefully coordinate the suck swallow reflex. It was a very special moment for mummy to finally experience having her baby at her breast. The torture of not having her baby boy with her all the time is being eased somewhat by having these special moments. Moments such as these that will eternally freeze in the mind and never be forgotten. Mummy cried a few happy tears of joy this past week.

Daddy also had a big week too. For those of you that don't know, Caine has a very weak stomach when it comes to bodily fluids or bodily deposits. The Nurses have had a long standing issue over the past month of trying to get Caine to change a poopy nappy and up until this week a few attempts had gone completely pear shaped whereby Caine had pulled the plug at the very last minute and literally escaped running away. This has provided quite a few laughs within our room for the nurses and the other parents of the other babies in the room. Caine finally attempted his worst nightmare and success was finally won for Ange our Nurse. The whole entire nappy change was made with Dad gagging and with vomit being held back, but he did it and we are very proud of him. Isaac made the deed all the more tough by providing two poops whilst being changed, well done little man :-)
