Isaac is fast approaching his 6month birthday, and its quite funny for us as parents to explain the entire story all the time - so we just say - we have a newborn and he's 11 weeks old...it makes it a lot easier for people to grasp his actual age.
Master Isaac is growing well and putting on weight. He is sleeping well at night time and most nights needs to be woken for a feed, the longest we will let him go without a feed is 5 hours as he needs to be growing and putting on weight steadily before we can drop his night feed entirely. Some weeks his weight gain isn't very much and then the next week it's a truckload so until we can get a steady weight gain every week we must do at least one night feed.
We do forget though that Isaac has been on the block a little while now and quite often we chuckle at his little antics. He has the most amazing smile and little chuckle that just melts your heart. Isaac is a little Cat napper during the day and hasn't been sleeping at all when you put him down in his cot or bassinette (he sleeps well there at night)...I figured out why though, in reality our lil man has had his mummy by his bedside since he was born and was also amongst constant noise, so take those two things away and well I am pretty sure he doesn't understand why and wants his mummy right next to him or in the same room...so for now ( only until hes a little older) my lil muchkin sleeps in the lounge during the day and then in his cot or bassinette at night.
Isaac had his forst shower and absolutely loved it...he enjoyed every minute and cried when we got him out...note to any parent if you want to soothe your newborn jump in the shower they love it!

The last time Deb's Grandma Lola visited Isaac was back towards the end of June when Isaac was in the NICU and still on CPAP. Well Lola was able to come visit her great grandson in his home and it was a day that mummy won't forget for a long time.
Back in June .........................................................................And the recent Visit
We often have to change Isaac's nasal prongs or tapes and it's moments such as these that we find golden as we get to see his beautiful lil face in full.
I hope to get some good ones in the coming weeks without the tape even...
Isaac loves to watch the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on TV in the mornings as it is a very colourful TV program...mummy is often very snap happy during this time :)

Feeding time is usually interesting, it can range from a very quick gulp down in 15-20mins or it can go right up to an hour, depending on the reflux and how much Isaac wants to play!

A bit of tuumy time on the couch...doesn't seem to mind it!

Out for a walk..when the weather is nice!
Isaac has discovered that eating his hands are yummy!!

In my big boy bed - my cot!

Next week Isaac is off to the Childrens hospital to meet with his Respiratory Physician. We are hoping to make some headway with Slowly weaning our lil guy off his oxygen. At times this is very limiting for our lil guy and especially for us as parents. It's quite difficult getting him in and out of the car with the portable oxygen and most of the time its just easier to stay home. For Isaac it's not so pleasant having nasal prongs up his nose 24/7, he hates them, you can see he wants them off. We are hoping and praying that this will happen soon...it will be a slow weaning process and to think he may need the support well into his 12th month to possibly even 24th month corrected (this is what has been suggested at this stage) we are hoping we can forge ahead early, but only Isaac can dictate what he needs and for how long. He has come a long way and well he does have Chronic Lung Disease afterall, something which can not be taken lightly and we are gradually working at getting him to grow big and strong. The lungs do not stop growing until a child is 8 years of age and well at least by the age of 2 he should hopefully be a lot stronger from a lung perspective.
We had a scare during the past week and a quick visit was made to the hospital and all was okay but it just highlighted again how fragile our lil guy is. It is very important that our lil guy stays healthy and away from being subjected to possible infections or common colds, which it kind of feels like we all live in a bubble at the moment but it's all for his Saftey. We are slowly getting out and about for small walks here and there but no shopping or being in populated general public areas have been visitied yet...something we hope to work towards in the future as well. Weare happy to spend such Quality time loving our lil Warrior Man as a close knit family :)

From the moment you were born hundreds of people have been inspired by your fighting spirit, because just like your mum you are strong and beautiful. You are loved by so many, including you sister and brother watching over you. I can't wait to meet you and continue to watch you grow up. Isaac will grow to understand and know what it is like to be loved by a whole world of friends.
It has been emotional and heartwrenching at times watching your journey. It is also extremely joyous. Deb someday I hope somehow we will meet in person and I can give you and your " Little Warrior Man " the biggest of hugs. If you get to travel to Canada my door is open. Lots of love and hugs

Hello Beautiful Warrior Man!
ReplyDeleteWOW..you are getting so big and wont have those silly nasal prongs for long. I know they are pesky:( but it's a good thing that you have the most handsome face ever that nothing could hide all your cuteness! I love your smile and adorable cheeks (can I bite them?)!!
Enjoy your walks and the time that you get to bust out of the house. Tell mummy and daddy that those lungs of yours will mature in time and you will be running around like a curious tot in no time at all.
Catherine's babysitter was born in the 20ish gestation - very premature and had lung disease and O2 for the longest time. Fast forward 18 years, she is an all star full scholorship college softball player!! Kids are tough and Isaac will grow out of this. I know that O2 is a difficult thing to deal with for many many reasons. The tape is horrible and the whole experience is draining.(((hugs)) Isaac - you are doing awesome sweetieman!!

Hi Deb,
ReplyDeleteLike so many people here and around the world, I have been following Isaac's blog, and watching your lil' warrior man grow into such a beautiful and strong baby boy.
It was such a learning experience as I had no idea what premmies, and micro premmies have to endure. Thanks to Kelly who started the blog as soon as Isaac was born. We all prayed so hard for Isaac and just wanted to know that our prayers were being heard. With each set back, we were kept informed of of his fight and persistence, your strength and determination.
Your family has touched the hearts of so many, and we all wish you much good health and happiness for the future.
Thank you for sharing your amazing and courageous journey with us all.
Love,
